Prasae Mangrove Forest Walk

Prasae Mangrove Forest Walk

One of the highights of visiting Prasae in Rayong is the 2,400 acre mangrove forest along the coastline. This project is not only important to prevent land erosion but is also the source of income for local people who fish here for crab, shrimp and other marine animals. The mangrove also plays an important part in local ecotourism due to the 2.6km long boardwalk. The walk starts at HTMS Prasae and takes you through the forest and along the coastline. The highlights of the walk is Tung Prong Thong which means golden field in Thai.

HTMS Prasae Memorial

HTMS Prasae Memorial

One of the tourist attractions in Klaeng district of Rayong is HTMS Prasae Memorial. This US frigate was built in 1943 and was originally named “USS Gallup″. After the second world war, the ship was sold to the Royal Thai Navy under the condition that it would be used to help in the Korean War. It was finally decommisioned in 2000 and docked permently in Paknam Prasae. It is free to explore the boat and climb onto the deck and up to the wheelhouse. Though you are not allowed inside. Many of the guns are still in place. Nearby, there is a mangrove walk along the coastline.

Rayong Marriott Resort & Spa

Rayong Marriott Resort & Spa

The Rayong Marriott Resort & Spa is an upscale hotel about 205 kms from Bangkok. It is on the Eastern seaboard in Rayong province, at Laem Mae Phim Beach. The room where I stayed has some exceptional views of the Gulf of Thailand from the upper floors. The reverse side has the hills as the view. These drone photos were taken at around 5 p.m. with a maximum height of 275 meters.

Saengchan Beach

Saengchan Beach in Rayong

Saengchan Beach in Rayong is one of those places that you never know what to expect when you fly the drone. Saengchan, and neighbouring Laem Charoen and Suchada beaches, are not your normal beaches. They are a series of man-made  horse-shoe shaped lagoons. This cuts down on any beach erosion and also makes for safer swimming. There are so many that it is easy to choose your own private lagoon.
